Unilock Driveway & Pavers: The Anaheim Owner’s Guide

Unilock paver driveway repair and replacement in Anaheim typically runs $5,000-$18,000 installed, depending on whether we’re addressing localized failure or full replacement. We stock Unilock-compatible edge restraints, bedding sand, and joint stabilization compounds on our trucks, and we can usually assess and quote within 48 hours. Most Anaheim homeowners discover their Unilock driveway is failing when they notice shifting after winter rains, joint sand washing out toward the street, or individual pavers rocking underfoot in the driveway apron where the daily load is heaviest.

Which Unilock Models This Applies To

Unilock’s driveway-rated lines fall into three categories we work with regularly in Anaheim: the permeable Eco-Priora series (80mm thickness, designed for residential vehicle loads), the standard Brussels Block at 60mm, and the thicker Courtstone at 70mm for heavier traffic. The critical compatibility issue isn’t the paver face pattern; it’s the edge restraint system and the base specification that was used originally. Unilock’s own U-Grip edge restraint requires a specific 12-inch concrete haunch detail that many Anaheim installations from the 2015-2020 building boom skipped or reduced to 6 inches to save on concrete costs. We’ve replaced failed driveways in the Platinum Triangle area where the pavers themselves were sound but the edge restraint had no proper haunch, causing the field to migrate outward.

To identify your series, check the spacer bars on the paver sides: Eco-Priora has wider, engineered gaps for drainage; Brussels Block uses narrower, traditional spacers. If you don’t have original paperwork, measure paver thickness at the edge and photograph the spacer pattern. We’ll match it to current Unilock specs and flag any base-layer concerns before quoting.

We are an independent service provider with no affiliation to Unilock Corporation. We source through Unilock’s authorized distribution network and also stock quality aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Techo-Bloc when the project spec allows.

Signs Your Unilock Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Unilock Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Individual pavers rock or sink when stepped on. This usually means the bedding sand layer has washed out or compacted unevenly, often from irrigation overspray pooling against the driveway edge. In Anaheim’s clay-heavy soils, that water doesn’t drain laterally; it undermines the 1-inch sand bed directly.
  • Joint sand continuously disappears after rain. Polymeric sand failure is common here. The original installer may have used standard mason’s sand instead of polymer-modified joint sand, or applied it before a forecasted rain. Once the binding agent washes out, you’re left with voids that accelerate paver movement.
  • Edge pavers tipping outward or a visible gap forming at the border. The concrete haunch under your edge restraint has cracked or separated. This is the failure we see most on Anaheim hillsides and in areas with expansive soil, where seasonal moisture change moves the substrate.
  • White efflorescence blooming across the surface that doesn’t clean off. This is calcium hydroxide migration from the base concrete or from hard water contact, not a structural failure, but it signals moisture is moving through the system in a way the original design didn’t account for.
  • Drainage grate sitting proud of the paver field or visible low spot forming. The base has settled differentially, often where utility trenches were backfilled with native soil instead of compacted aggregate. We’ve found this repeatedly in Anaheim’s older neighborhoods where gas line upgrades preceded paver installation.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range in Anaheim What’s Included
Localized repair (under 100 sq ft) $2,500-$5,500 Remove failed section, recompact base, replace bedding sand, reinstall or match pavers, polymeric sand jointing
Edge restraint replacement only $1,800-$4,000 Excavate edge, pour proper 12″ concrete haunch, install U-Grip or equivalent, backfill and compact
Full driveway replacement $7,000-$18,000 Complete removal, 6-8″ compacted aggregate base, bedding sand, pavers, edge restraint, joint stabilization, final compaction
Driveway sealing (maintenance) $250-$700 Cleaning, joint sand top-up, breathable sealer application

The wide range on full replacement reflects base condition. If we pull up the field and find saturated native clay instead of the specified aggregate base, we excavate and rebuild it. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price is delivered before any work starts, and no change proceeds without a signed change order. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation and materials.

What you can safely check yourself: walk the driveway with a level and note where water ponds after irrigation. Photograph any efflorescence or cracked edge concrete. These observations help us diagnose before we arrive.

Where DIY goes wrong: pulling pavers without understanding the base layer. We’ve been called to Anaheim homes where a homeowner lifted a few pavers, added bagged sand from the hardware store, and created a harder, non-draining layer that trapped more water. The proper bedding sand is ASTM C33 coarse concrete sand, not masonry sand. Edge restraint replacement involves excavation, concrete work, and compaction in lifts; it’s not a weekend project. And polymeric sand application requires a 24-hour dry window that Anaheim’s morning marine layer often contradicts.
