Signs Your IKO Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

• Depressions forming under vehicle paths. The bedding sand has washed out or compacted unevenly, often because the original installer used ASTM C-33 concrete sand instead of the sharper, angular ASTM C-144 masonry sand that locks under load. What you can safely check yourself: measure the affected area, photograph the paver pattern and any stamps or markings, and probe the base with a screwdriver to feel for soft spots. If the depression is less than a quarter-inch and isolated, sweeping fresh polymeric sand into joints and misting it per the manufacturer’s rate might buy you a season.

Where DIY goes wrong: lifting pavers without marking their pattern orientation, using play sand or all-purpose sand instead of ASTM C-144 bedding sand, and compacting without a plate compactor rented with the proper pad for pavers.
