• Reduced flow compared to when the fixture was new. The check valves in the GrohFlex rough-in box are clogged with debris, or the flow restrictor in the showerhead has scaled shut. We distinguish between the two with a pressure test at the valve outlet before the trim, so we’re not replacing a $400 valve to fix a $12 aerator.
• Thermostatic valve delivers only scalding or only cold water. The wax thermoelement has failed, a non-serviceable component inside Grohe thermostatic cartridges. The element senses mixed-water temperature and adjusts the hot/cold ratio; when it dies, the valve defaults to full-hot as a safety position. This is a full cartridge replacement, not a cleaning job.
