Signs Your Sakrete Bathroom Installation Is Failing

• Hollow-sounding tile - The Sakrete mortar bed has debonded from the substrate, usually because the mix was too wet or the substrate wasn’t dampened before application. In Anaheim’s dry winter months, concrete sucks moisture out of the mortar before it can cure, leaving a void you can hear when you tap.

What you should not do is start chipping out a Sakrete mortar bed without testing for asbestos in pre-1990 construction, and you should never disturb a shower pan if you suspect the membrane has failed, water may have saturated surrounding framing, and mold remediation may be required.
