ES Windows Driveway & Pavers: The Anaheim Owner’s Guide

We stock and install ES Windows-compatible driveway and paver systems in Anaheim, with paver driveway installations running $7,000-$18,000 and concrete driveway work at $4,500-$12,000 depending on substrate condition and square footage. Most ES Windows paver failures we see in Anaheim start at the edge restraint or bedding layer, not the paver itself, because the freeze-thaw cycle is mild but the clay-heavy soil in neighborhoods like Anaheim Hills shifts seasonally. Homeowners usually notice the problem first as a wobble underfoot near the garage transition, or water pooling where the grade used to drain clean.

Which ES Windows Models This Applies To

ES Windows markets its hardscape line under the ES Drive & Walk series, with the DW-100 (standard residential paver) and DW-200 (permeable paver) forming the bulk of what was installed in Anaheim between 2015 and 2022. The part number is stamped on the spacer lug of each paver, visible if you lift one from the edge, or on the original invoice if you have it. The DW-200 permeable line uses a 60mm thickness and wider joint spacing than the DW-100’s 80mm standard profile, so edge restraint clips and bedding sand gradation are not interchangeable between the two.

We carry OEM ES Windows edge restraint, bedding sand, and joint stabilizer, plus aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Techo-Bloc where the spec matches. The aftermarket saves 15-20% on material cost, but we flag this: ES Windows’ DW-200 permeable system requires ASTM C936 Type R joint sand, and most generic paver sands do not meet that permeability spec. Using standard joint sand in a DW-200 install will clog the drainage layer within two rainy seasons in Anaheim’s clay soil. We note the spec on every written quote so the customer sees the difference before we order.

Signs Your ES Windows Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your ES Windows Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Pavers rock or shift underfoot. The bedding layer has washed out or compacted unevenly, usually from a failed edge restraint that let the perimeter spread. In Anaheim’s sandy-loam zones near the Platinum Triangle, we see this where irrigation runoff hits the driveway apron.
  • Water pools where it used to drain. The substrate has settled or the bedding layer has degraded, breaking the 1:100 slope that ES Windows specs for residential installs. Pooling near the garage threshold is the most common call we get.
  • Weeds growing through joint sand. The polymeric stabilizer has broken down, which happens faster on south-facing driveways in Anaheim where UV exposure is highest. This is cosmetic until the sand loss lets water reach the bedding layer.
  • Chipped or spalled paver corners. The DW-100’s 80mm profile handles vehicle loads fine, but if the bedding layer is too thin or the base insufficiently compacted, point loads crack the corners. We measure base depth before quoting replacement.
  • Sunken strip near the street or garage. The concrete collar or edge restraint has failed, letting the paver field migrate. This is structural; the fix requires lifting the affected area, regrading the base, and resetting with new edge restraint.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range
Partial paver reset (under 200 sq ft, edge repair) $1,800-$4,500
Full driveway replacement, standard paver $7,000-$18,000
Full driveway replacement, concrete $4,500-$12,000
Base repair only (lift, regrade, reset existing pavers) $2,500-$6,000

The spread depends on three things: how much base needs recompaction, whether the original edge restraint is reusable, and paver availability. ES Windows paver colors have shifted over production runs, so a 2017 install may not match current stock exactly. We photograph the existing field, source the closest match, and show the customer before ordering. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the written price includes all material, labor, base prep, and disposal, with a signed change order required if we find unexpected subgrade damage once we lift the pavers. No surprises.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely check the paver model number and photograph the failure pattern, which saves us time on the initial visit. What does not work as DIY: lifting more than a few pavers without knowing the base depth, or recompacting without a plate compactor and moisture control. The base under ES Windows spec is 4-6 inches of compacted Class II base rock; hand-tamping will not achieve 95% relative compaction, and the pavers will fail again within a year.

We do not recommend DIY edge restraint installation. The vinyl or aluminum restraint must be spiked at 8-inch centers into undisturbed soil or concrete, and the paver field must be restrained before bedding sand goes in. Sequence matters. If the failure is more than a few square feet, the repair is faster and cheaper when done once.
